Kid City Child Care Wins Honors

Kid City Child Care came out a big winner Saturday at the Gulf Coast Association for the Education of Young Children (GCAEYC) awards ceremony.  They were excited to have two teachers nominated for Teacher of the Year.  Janie Wynn, our kindergarten teacher was nominated as well as Chriscelia Vazquez our 12 – 18 month old teacher. Chriscelia Vazquez won the big honor. Kid City is proud of all of their teachers.  They all help make the center a special place to be.  Everyone loves Kid City!

Our Kid City Director/Owner Kim Symons was also nominated and won the Body, Mind, and Spirit Award. Every nominee had to have at least five references from the parents of the center.   This award was truly special as it was given to a Director that give of herself to the center and always puts the children first.  Kid City feels this is the perfect description of their director, Kim Symons.

Not only did they win big honors at the GCAEYC but also won the Gold Ribbon from the health dept for Kid City 1 and 2!  The criteria for this prestigious award  includes: Establishment must actually prepare food, have at least one certified food service manager employed, have evidence of staff training and no significant number of demerits.  They must also have a good cleaning and maintenance program in place and comply with all the rules by the use of food safety aids.  They were very excited to win the Gold Ribbon for Kitchen excellence.

Week of the Young Child!

The theme for the 2010 Week of the Young Child will be "Early Years Are Learning Years."

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 90,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child is a time to plan how we--as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation--will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.

We will be planning different activities for the children during this week. A schedule will be posted outside your child's door and included in our Monthly Newsletter. We look forward to celebrating this week with you and your child.
